Thomas Bailey

Gauntlet Runner, while a work of fiction, is about real battles that took place in early America before the fight for independence.

As a reviewer I must mention that there is a graphic description of the torture of Indian captives that some may find disturbing. It all depends on the individual reader and their level of comfort with the descriptions. Many such incidents have been recorded and depicted in numerous movies dealing with the “White Man” and Indians (Now called Native American).

S. Thomas Bailey, author of the Gauntlet Runner is a researcher of early North American life as a raw historian.

If you are at all interested in early American history, Gauntlet Runner is a book that should be added to your required reading list.
This reviewer assigns a four out of five stars to Gauntlet Runner with a must read recommendation.

Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of the Gauntlet Runner for yourself.

Reviewer for AllBook Reviews
Robert Medak
Freelance Writer, editor, reviewer
Follow me on Twitter RJ_Medak

Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc

Author: John Hennessy

As a reviewer, Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc is a book that made me wish I had part 2 as a reader. The cast of characters in Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc is believable and the setting is a planet other than Earth, with a combination of myth and magic. The cast of characters includes unique animals that can speak to the humanoids and mythical creatures that combine into a quest to find a rumored suit of armor with special properties.

Does this armor exist? The only way to learn the answer is to do what this reviewer did, read the book.

Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc is a book leaving this reviewer/reader wanting more of this tale to read to find out what happens next to Tom, Bravis, Keltin, Captain Ron (a parrot), and two Leprechauns.

Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc has everything in it that readers will enjoy; history, magic, myths, battles, and intrigue, which is something for everyone. Readers will love to read Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc as this avid reader/reviewer did.

While reading Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc, this reviewer found it hard to put down, although this reviewer prefers hard copies over electronic this reviewer read the later on a tablet using Adobe® Reader it was still hard to quit reading even while being tired. It has been a long time since this reviewer/reader has been so affected by reading a story.

This reviewer recommends reading Life Descending: Part One of The Cry of Havoc awarding it a five out of five star rating.

Reviewer for AllBook Reviews
Robert J Medak
Writer, editor, reviewer
Follow me on Twitter RJ_Medak

Old Gooseberry's Dilemma

Author: Patricia Perry

Imagine a wager between God and Lucifer, with the Dean Brothers final fate in the balance. Will the Dean Brothers end up with God, or with Lucifer (Gooseberry)? Gooseberry must watch over the as part of the bet.

Part of the bet is to keep the Deans out of trouble, which is not an easy task for anyone, even Old Gooseberry. Why would Gooseberry accept such a wager, especially when keeping track of the Dean Brothers is a full-time job? Who is going to torment the souls in Hades while Lucifer is busy watching over the Deans? This is Lucifer’s favorite pass time, tormenting people and watching over his domain on TV in his office smoking cigars.

Follow along as Old Gooseberry tries his best to keep the Dean Brothers out of trouble so they will end up in heaven. Lucifer is afraid if he loses the bet the Dean Brother will upset his domain and perhaps try to take over from him. This cannot happen.

Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma takes place from late afternoon on Wednesday, thru Saturday until 6:00.01 PM, during which time Lucifer must make sure the Dean Brothers do not get into any serious trouble.

Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma is a fun read that follows Lucifer as he visits and tries to keep the Dean Brothers out of trouble on Earth. He becomes a mere shadow of himself because it takes a lot to keep the Deans out of trouble that would cause him to lose the bet with God thru his emissary Michael the Archangel who started to wager in the first place.

You will have to read Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma to see how this wager ends. You may not be able to guess the outcome. Will it be God, or Old Gooseberry? This reviewer found Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma at times, funny, sad, and left to contemplate if things like this really take place.

Grab yourself a copy of Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma, sit in a comfy chair and enjoy the trials and tribulations of Old Gooseberry as he works hard to keep the Dean Brothers out of serious trouble in order to keep them out of his domain, Hades.

This reviewer awards four and one-half out of five stars to Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma and recommends it as a must read.

Old Gooseberry’s Dilemma is available at: Amazon, and The Publisher (www.buybooksontheweb.com/).

Reviewer for AllBooks Review
Robert Medak
Freelance Writer, Editor, Reviewer
Follow me on Twitter RJ_Medak

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Liz R. Newman

This reviewer received a pre-pub manuscript of An Affinity For Shadows for review. This reviewer found the manuscript in need of some editing.

An Affinity For Shadows is the story of two friends, Kate and Tabitha from different backgrounds who were roommates in college that became friends despite their backgrounds.

Kate became a Television journalist while Tabitha went her own way after college. Kate, centered on her career lost touch with Tabitha after sharing an apartment with her. Kate was serious about her career while Tabitha was more of a party girl.

The 9/11 attack happened while Kate was working on her on air show. She and her friend Gibbs went to tape a spot for her show. Gibbs had a heart attack and passed on the spot while holding the camera on his shoulder. Later she meets an enigmatic man, Sal (who is the Marques Sal Oliveri), who is unknown to Kate and thinks little of him at the time.

Because of Gibbs death and Deenie who was sleeping with the boss, Kate was having a hard time dealing with life in general, and love in particular. Kate wondered if she was even capable of loving after being asked to be the Maid of Honor at Tabitha’s wedding even though they haven’t seen each other in over four years.

Because of a rare medical condition and a man in Kate’s life, things didn’t go very well for either Kate or Tabitha. The Tabloids caught Kate in disarray slipping on ice and snow as she ran out of the Church during the ceremony.

Now was the beginning of Kate’s PTSD and her questioning her life, and if the love of a good man would ever be a part of it.

Kate works on a new show while she also takes a vacation in Italy until Tabitha shows up in need of her friend Kate. Here she meets Sal again and things change for Kate in ways she could never have dreamed of.

What transpires next is only for those that read the book. It is engrossing, funny, and tragic with some interesting exchanges between Kate and Tabitha, especially while they are both in Italy.

This reviewer can only award three out of five stars for this manuscript, but with judicious editing, would award a solid four and a half stars out of five to An Affinity For Shadows by Liz R. Newman.

Reviewer for AllBook Reviews
Robert J Medak
Writer, blogger, editor, reviewer

Jihad Genocide: The Last Jihad

By Ted Habib

Jihad Genocide is a story about a call to alert the powers that be in the United States and other countries about the impending Jihad and a possible date of December 31st where multiple teams of Jihadists are set to employee suicide bombers to unleash a biological agent to kill more people at one time than the September 11, 2001 attack on the twin towers in New York.

The main character in Jihad Genocide is Samuel Josef a Muslim who converted to Christianity while living in India and about his siblings who are part of the Jihadists believers that are sending money for and work at learning about what they can do to bring Islam to the world as the only allowable religion and to the utter elimination of all nonbelievers.

Is Jihad a Holy War, or is it something more diabolical. As mentioned in Jihad Genocide Samuel Josef explains in detail how his siblings work at corrupting the U.S. judicial system through intimidation and death threats if rulings go against them or the people who are working with them in their struggle to destroy the very thing that allows them the freedom to do so, while using fraud, money laundering, and scams to send money to train the next generation of Jihadists (which some call terrorists).

This is a book that all at the seat of government should read and act upon.
Jihad Genocide receives four out of five stars, but with some judicious editing could receive a higher rating. This is a must read wake-up call to free societies around the world.

Disclaimer: This reviewer was compensated for his review, which in no way relates to the rating of this book. Why, you ask? They tend to ask many of the same questions. For instance, “When did you start writing?” I might want to know the answer to that question once, but not at every stop on the tour. I say, “Let’s jump out of the box.” Some of us are writers, right? We’re creative, right? Why stop our creativity when it comes to our book tours??

Now I have to put up or shut up. I looked at my book, Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep, for the key areas of interest. When Zachary puts on his thick black glasses, he becomes a super hero. This enables him to protect his new baby sister from all kinds of problems. In the process he learns how much he loves her. This action packed book with clever rhymes focuses on teaching consonant blends. The teacher supplement includes comprehension questions, songs, worksheets and activities.

This led me to include a superhero trivia question on each stop. The history of superheroes and the foods they eat pretty much cover the superhero angle.

Sibling rivalry, famous brother sister pairs, poems and quotes deal with the relationship between Zachary and his new sister, Layla. For the academics, I added tips for helping your child prepare and adjust to a new baby.

I couldn’t leave out consonant blends. I have one post about my consonant blends! (Hehehe) and for the teachers I’ve added a language arts guide that corresponds to the book.

Don’t worry. I’m not ‘throwing the baby out with the bathwater.’ I still have some excellent reviews and interviews strategically placed on the tour. How else would you find out when I started writing?

I’d love to hear some different approaches to virtual book tours that you’ve experienced.

Kathy Stemke has a passion for writing, the arts and all things creative. She has Bachelor degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and Covenant Life Seminary, as well as graduate coursework from New York Institute of Technology and Columbia University. Those of us that have never spent hours sitting before a computer trying to come up with a few sentences think there’s nothing to it, and everyone wants to write The Great American Novel some day. If you can, do it; however, it won’t come fast or easy.

One of the best quotes that sum up the writing life comes from Red Smith: “All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.” How true, indeed!

Just as with professional jobs such as doctors, lawyers, plumbers, etc., you need training to become a highly skilled writer. It begins with learning the language. You should have a strong grasp of the English language, or whatever language you intend to write your novel in. We have all seen terrible books in which the speaker’s voice was butchered due to poor grammar, spelling mistakes, easy-to-fix typos, and more. An editor is great at helping you to fix some of these problems, but if you never excelled in your studies, it would be a disaster. Why not just hire someone to ghostwrite your novel then?

Okay, so let’s say you’re a genius with English, where does that leave you next? Study writing. Read a lot, especially the genre you want to write in. Learn the proper formats and story lengths. Got that mastered? Then you’re one step ahead of the game. Congratulations, you’re on the road to becoming a writer.

The next thing for you to do is look at and compare the markets. Find the best match for you. Learn how to pitch to those markets. Do your research. You should know what types of submissions a publisher/agent is looking for. Don’t send something off to a generic editor. Find out a particular editor’s name and never attempt to bribe someone to look at your manuscript. If you can write an eye-catching opening along with a really good letter, then it should be a cinch to close the deal. But be prepared for rejections. A big part of writing is growing a backbone. Don’t take rejections personally. It’s a part of the procedure. Go with the flow.

But it all comes down to this. For many, it takes years to learn a trade. It should take time to become a writer. No one can sit down and write a great novel overnight and to think you can is a bit ludicrous. Research, study, and learn before you even think of starting to write. Then you will find out that writing isn’t for the faint of heart.

Good luck!

-------------------------

Shelby has self-published two creative writing exercise books, Dark Recesses of the Mind and Forbidden Knowledge, a short horror and science fiction collection entitled The Fear Within, and a supernatural thriller, When Angels Sing.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jAYGnP0iwxs/Tc9KcCl5OnI/AAAAAAAAAA8/20W7JQR5JiY/s320/coverart_createspace.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606781906692160114" />
By Shelby Patrick WHEN ANGELS SING came out in December 2010. The main male character, Blaze Kerrigan, is a typical young guy (with sex on the mind most days), but with one peculiar problem – he has a psychic link to a serial killer. So when Jenna Michaels shows up at his door unannounced and bears an uncanny resemblance to his dead fiancée, it’s Blaze’s job to keep her safe, especially when the body count starts to rise.

To see the trailer for WHEN ANGELS SING, please visit:
http://www.youtube.comhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif/watch?v=PPop7HH5slchttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

Meet Author Margaret Fieland

Born and raised in New York City, Margaret Fieland has been around art and music all her life. When investing, please use only money you can safely.

There are many people online and offline that will tell you to invest, but few will tell you not to invest if you don’t have money you can afford to lose. This reviewer thanks the author for this.

Mr. Leeds also mentions trying paper trading to learn how well you do, and about Leeds Analysis. He takes time to offer some real world examples of investing and how to value what is happening in terms that investors should be aware of as they invest.

Mr. Leeds will teach you about investing in Penny Stocks. You can make money via Penny Stocks, but also be aware of the fact that you may lose some of your investment as well.

Stocks are not guaranteed to make money. You must take the time to learn and invest smart by learning all you can and working paper trades first. It is by the use of paper trading that Mr. Leeds says is one of the best ways to choose stocks and learn how they react.

He states in Invest in Penny Stocks that buying and sitting on Blue Chip stocks is not the best way to invest, plus Blue Chip stocks are expensive and you will be able to purchase more shares by investing in Penny Stocks and knowing when to sell them.

This reviewer found the information invaluable for anyone considering investing in the stock market. This is a time when everyone and anyone puts forth the effort to write a novel, or at least the beginnings of a full fledged novel. The goal of NaNo is to write 50,000 words in 30 days (about 1667 words a day). But 50,000 words isn't really a full novel. If you accomplish this goal, you may have about a novel that is 2/3 completed. You could actually write a complete novella in the 30 days but not a full-fledged novel.

I have participated in NaNo for several years now, mostly as a cheerleader and the "official word keeper" for our region but I did write a novella or young adult novel one year, although I didn't really start writing it until late in the month and it took me a couple of weeks into December to complete it. I hope to edit that story within the next few months, once my series is more stabilized and the state stories are just being plucked up by my illustrator for layout and all, and publish it.

So how does one go about finding ideas to write at the frenzied pace of 1667 words a day? Ideas are everywhere and as long as you have the burning desire to meet the challenge, you can accomplish this task with very few problems.

Some folks start planning several months ahead by outlining and developing characters and scenarios that they would like to see occur in their novel; some folks wait until the last minute to come up with the topic for their novel. Those who outline and plot and plan ahead of time seem to be more invested in their writing than those of us who write by-the-seat-of-our-pants. On the other hand, some very good writing has come from the "pantsers." So how do you know which is the way to go? Experiment.

I don't outline so much as I have a system for my stories. Since I do mostly short stories and there is no real plot in them, outlining wouldn't work for me. If I were to ever jump into doing a 75,000 word or more novel, I might try outlining some basic plot points. Or if the idea had been brewing for a while, I would probably do some generalized outlining. Until then, I will remain a "pantser" and am accepting of that.

If you have a couple of hours a day to spend writing, I challenge you to participate in NaNo. You can sign up at the NaNo website and take the challenge. This book is by no means a step by step plan, but it does give you the basics for publishing your book.

The publishing industry has changed. In today’s environment, more is placed on the author to make a good impression on agents, editor, and publishers if they want to get their manuscript published.

The first impression is all you have to get the attention of those that hold the publishing purse strings. If you do not create something of value for their time and effort in your first impression your chances of becoming a published diminish greatly.

Carolyn’s The Great First Impression Book Proposal while not guaranteeing publishing does offer things that will aid you in the possibility of becoming published.

The Great First Impression Book Proposal is another in a series of pamphlets about various aspects of writing, editing, and publishing.

This is a book that anyone considering writing for publication should read all of Carolyn’s pamphlets about writing. Some may feel that they know the information in Carolyn’s pamphlets, they are still a good source of information and review of what authors need to know about getting past the gate keepers.

This reviewer awards four out of five stars for The Great Impression Book proposal by Carolyn Howard-Johnson.

This reviewer read a complementary copy sent to me by Carolyn at my request. As the author sates, “It is through love that the agreement, respect, patience, loyalty, and integrity will seamlessly flow. So we can say a family on one accord births the awakening of designing with purpose. But this cannot be accomplished without the underpinning of Scripture.”

A home should be a place of peace and emotional sanctuary that breeds closeness of the family. The quotes and scriptures bring this concept home in Designing for the King.

This reviewer gives Designing for the King a four star rating and a must read if the reader is considering changing their living space.

Endorsement Disclaimer: All reviews written by this reviewer are personal opinions of the book by this reviewer. Whether you are new or experienced in social media, there are still things to learn about Twitter found in Frugal and Focused Tweeting for Retailers.

Retailers can learn new ways of promotion for their shops in Frugal and Focused Tweeting for Retailers. A retailer can have their employees use twitter for branding the business, and so can entrepreneurs with some simple techniques found in this book. I know I have, and I plan to implement some of them as time allows.
The one thing not mentioned in this book is that if you are not careful, Twitter can become addictive to the point of becoming a detriment to your day. For retailers and entrepreneurs it can be a way to remain in contact with your customers, and to let more people know about you and your business.

You must also be aware of Twitter etiquette; you do not want to seem spamy on social media, Frugal and Focused Tweeting for Retailers to the rescue. Before you get too involved in Twitter, reading this book will give you some understanding of Twitter etiquette, which can translate to other social media sites.
I found this book easy to read, small at 129 pages, but full of pertinent information for anyone wish to enhance their Twitter presence.
I give this book four stars.

Endorsement Disclaimer: All reviews posted on this site and written by this reviewer are personal opinions of the book by this reviewer. When reading “Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” you will find stressed are ethical behavior, and reducing your businesses carbon footprint. This is actual steps your business is taking; not just saying your business is green to jump on the environmental bandwagon. This is where the ethical part comes in, ethical in dealing with your customers; also with your marketing materials if you state you rare green or whatever you are touting. You must walk the walk.

“Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” is also about marketing emphasizing ethical, frugal, and effective methods. There is also a resource section, which lists URLs for even more resources.

This reviewer enjoyed reading a section titled “A Social Movement Around Business Ethics” which contains a “Business Ethics Pledge” and an URL to the Web page to sign the pledge. This reviewer as a businessperson signed it and plans on living by it, and hopes that every business would be willing to do the same. Living ethically is good for personal peace.

“Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” also addresses subjects like social media, traditional media, turning customers, suppliers, and even competitors into an unofficial sales force, how to have acquaintances become joint-venture partners, and more.

“Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” is a book that needs to be handy for referencing as you work on your marketing plan and marketing materials. It will be a reference manual for this reviewer within arm’s reach.

If you choose one marketing book to aid in marketing your business or product, “Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” needs to be the book. You will not be disappointed, and will learn a good deal about ethical, frugal marketing.

This reviewer awards a five star rating to “Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green.”

This reviewer received a complimentary copy of, “Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green” from Wiley upon request. Cheves

This is not your ordinary cookbook. This cookbook, written for those that are not familiar with working in a kitchen; or did not have the luxury of being in the kitchen with their mother; grandmother, or even their father and learned the joy of cooking from them while spending time in the kitchen.

The recipes are simple comfort food and some that you may not have heard of. The point is to try them and learn to become comfortable in the kitchen and possibly pass on the joy of cooking to your children. There is no better way to spend time and have fun with your children then to work together in the kitchen as many children did years ago.

The anecdotes along with the recipes are fun to read on their own. What a treat to read while following the easy to prepare dishes in one pot. The recipes are easy to follow and create something special for one or a family.

This reviewer, thought back to the times he spent in the kitchen helping his mother by cutting up things, getting them ready for the pot. It does make for a special bond between child and parent.

For those that are single and avoid the kitchen due to lack of confidence around a stove, think of the sense of accomplishment when you create something yourself in the kitchen. We can’t live by take-out or the microwave all the time. We should strive to eat healthy most of the time.

This reviewer enjoyed Stir, Laugh, Repeat and awards it a five star rating.

Endorsement Disclaimer: All reviews posted written by this reviewer are personal opinions of the book by this reviewer. While reading, this reviewer exposed to an understanding of things heard without having to read passages in some confusing lexicon, concordance, or encyclopedia, of which there are many, found the definitions covered most denominations including Catholic.

With experience as a teacher and pastor for 20 years, Mr. Murphy has the knowledge and experience to explain the terms in this book. This reviewer found the reading easy and the theological terms fully explained so that anyone should be able to learn more about theology and its terms without having to spend years in the seminary or bible studies.

Mr. Murphy makes it clear with concise language what terms such as “Achilles Heel of Christianity” to “Works of Satisfaction” mean so that we all can learn and become closer to the lord.

This book is for anyone wishing to learn more about terms used in various religious denominates. In an easy to read format that does not require many other books, and hours spent searching through numerous texts hoping that you can come to some understanding of the terms we’ve been exposed to in our churches and bible study classes, or Sunday school; you will be able to find out what they mean here.
This is a wonderfully written book that explains terms is an alphabetical easy to read style, that taught me some new terms, that I found in one volume, not numerous books spread out all over tables or a desk. This is not a religious book, but a spiritual one that transcends any denomination.

Winning in Life Now is a small yet powerful book that is recommended as a must read, and is awarded a four star rating from this reviewer.

Dragon Domain: Book Two of the Dragon Clan Trilogy

By Theresa Chaze

In this book, Cheyenne and Celeste have a parting of the ways all because of the one known as Dominic. Celeste and Dominic steal from Cheyenne. More happens to darken the mood at the farm. Cheyenne must come up with money to pay the farm’s mortgage payments. She could lose the farm. Also in Dragon Domain are some old friends from Awakening the Dragon like Rachael Franklin, Kevin, Carmen, and others. There are also some new characters in Dragon Domain.

The new characters come to the aid of Cheyenne and those from the dark side. The House of Christ and its supporters are back again with their bigotry and narrow-mindedness. There are some truths that will come out, that are not been spoken of, and a few twists that no one might expect. While Dragon Domain is the continuing saga in the trilogy, it also has some new information and characters that add to the depth of the Dragon Clan Trilogy. Waiting for the third book isn’t easy. A recommendation is to find all three and read them in sequence.

What happens in the forest when the new characters end up not showing up when expected? Will things turn out as Cheyenne hopes, or will the dark one prevail? This is a story of light and dark, good and evil from a nonreligious point of view. It is from a belief system within the participants involved in the struggle and their determination and inner strengths.

The House of Christ is of little use, and is more of a hindrance, by not allowing things to run their course. There are more things that we are unaware of than things that we do understand in the world around us. Dragon Domain explores some of them. It is up to the reader to believe or not. The book is fiction, but is it really?

This reviewer awards a four star rating to Dragon Domain.

Awakening the Dragon: Book One of the Dragon Clan Trilogy

By Theresa Chase

Who is Rachael, and why has she come to Coyote Springs? In a town of bigotry and religious zealots, Rachael is opening the Dragon’s Den bookstore. Why at this particular time has Rachael and her cats come to Coyote Springs? What of the people at “The Farm”, as the town’s people refer to it, is there something that Rachael must do? She has more questions than answers as she begins life in Coyote Springs.

Out of town, lies a cottage that the towns’ folk want burned down, why do they want it destroyed? The owner and rather powerful person in town, Kevin, will not allow its destruction. He doesn’t want it destroyed and doesn’t want to rent it out, why? People are afraid to enter the cottage. When they enter, strange things begin to happen to them physically. No one can stay in the cottage for any length of time. Kevin even has trouble lasting in the cottage for more than a few minutes before he becomes ill.

Along comes Rachael, she talks to the previous owner who is dead and is welcomed into the cottage. Is this some supernatural ability, or is there really something within Rachael growing stronger, why Rachael, and not someone from Coyote Springs? Is there a mission for her to complete that Rachael is unaware of as to why her mentor sent her to this particular town?

Cheyenne from the farm is someone that the House of Christ is against along with Rachael Franklin. Is there a real reason or is just that the members of the House of Christ don’t like someone who is different and will not conform to what the reverend and followers believe people should think and believe.

This is only a small glimmer into the story in Awakening the Dragon. You will have to read the book to find out the intricacies of the story.

This reviewer awards a four star rating to Awakening the Dragon.

The Well-Fed Self-Publisher

By Peter Bowerman

Given the state of today’s publishing industry, and the number of books being published yearly, have you considered self-publishing as an alternative to the mainstream publishers? While there are many self-published books in today’s market, the problem with many is the poor quality of the writing (lack of editing) and physical design (especially book covers). In this comprehensive book, Peter explains about what it takes to be a successful self-publisher. Incidentally, he doesn’t consider POD self-publishing, but offers up several scenarios where POD makes sense for certain books/authors.

In TWFSP, you will find information on why self-publishing might make sense, getting comfortable with the sales and marketing process, building a book, targeting buyers and building demand, building a book website, distribution, Amazon, maximizing mainstream media, article writing, radio shows, the ins and outs of live appearances, creating multiple stream of income from your book, and much more. The appendices contain self-publishing resources, info on a valuable companion marketing e-kit, a self-publishing time line, and a section of foreign rights.

The Well-Fed Self-Publisher is a complete manual for a business as a self-publisher. In today’s publishing environment, finding an agent, then waiting and hoping that your book will get published, can be a dead end. This book shows you how to do it yourself and still get your book on bookstore shelves.

Items discussed in TWFSP are the cover, how to make your self-published book compete with the mainstream publishers’ books in look, feel, and quality (books that don’t compare to those coming out of publishing houses will be hard to promote to reviewers, wholesalers, distributors, and bookstores). Especially useful is a chapter explain and demystifying the concepts of “Sales & Marketing” that terrify many authors today, but which they’ll have to learn and use to get their book into the hands of readers.

The Well-Fed Self-Publisher is a roadmap to self-publishing and getting your book into the hands of readers. This book, filled with information about the publishing industry and what authors need to accomplish in order to become a published author, is delivered in a conversational tone from someone who’s successfully self-published his books (over 50,000 copies of his first two books are in print). Check out The Well-Fed Self-Publisher “Biz-in-a-Box” Teaser in the back of the book.

This reviewer gives this book a five-star rating. If you are considering self-publishing, read this book and find out what self-publishing is about.

Overcomers, Inc

Compiled by Lynne Klippel

Read stories of thirty-eight diverse authors as they talk about Hope, Courage, and Inspiration in Overcomers, Inc; they speak of triumph over adversity with their true-life stories.

The book that will assist you in coming to terms with whatever is troubling in your life, and to create your own triumph of adversity, it is your outlook that dictates much of what we as humans feel and how we react to outside or internal stimuli.

In Overcomers, Inc:
You will find tools to create success out of your failures.
How-to awaken your life purpose.
How-to let go of the past, no matter what you experienced.
Find the strength and courage to persevere in the face of any challenging experience.

Do not let fear from the past dictate how you live today and your life’s purpose. For example, do you know when to use “affect” versus “effect” in your writing? Or “further” versus “farther”? Or “famous” versus “notorious”?

If you’re not sure, Word Trippers is the perfect reference ebook for you. While most people think magazines when they hear “freelance writing,” TWFW isn’t about writing for magazines, but rather “commercial freelancing” – writing for businesses, large and small – a lesser-known and exceptionally well-paying freelancing specialty, where hourly rates can run $50-125 and more.

The bad news is that, like any business, if you don’t do the work described in this book, you won’t succeed. TWFW provides all the information necessary for creating a thriving freelance commercial writing business, but you must follow through. Should you purchase it? If you have ever thought of writing for a living like this reviewer has, yes.

The good news, according to TWFW, is that if you follow and implement the principles laid out in its pages, you can create an income that will allow you to leave the cubicle world and work from home on your terms. Reading TWFW is the first step. The book is full of information from someone who’s been there and done the work, and is helping others by writing this book.

Topics covered include: Why become freelance commercial writers (writing for businesses) in the first place? The traits and first steps to becoming successful; sales and marketing fundamentals; all about websites; where to find the work; cold-calling; what to charge and how to get paid; networking; working in small markets (for those in rural areas); resources, and more can all be found in this wonderful book. This great reference should have a prominent place in your home office. It is within reach on mine. Read it before you begin and you’ll save yourself a lot of trial and error.

Reading the success stories will show you it works no matter where you live. This reviewer lives in a town with a population of 1,600. For anyone considering writing as a way to make an income, this reviewer recommends purchasing this book. Also, check out The Deluxe Well-Fed Tool Box & The Well-Fed Writer’s Time Line (discussed in the book).

This reviewer recommends this book for those thinking about freelancing (five-star rating).

The Evolution Conspiracy Vol. 1

Exposing Life's Inexplicable origins & The Cult of Darwin
By Lisa A. What does The Bible say about what a Church is?

Trough the reading of this book, Mr. Murphy, through scripture explains the meaning of the Church and the Growth movement within. This reviewer was intrigued with the premise and the writing in this book. If you are a person of faith, this book will give you pause to think about the term and meaning of the word “Church.” This reviewer found it easy reading and a different perspective about what a Church is and the meaning of it in today’s society. Is the “Church Growth Movement” a theological or philosophical movement? This book examines failure. If you have lived any years at all, you should have come to the realization that often more can be learned by failure than from success.

This book is about personal experience and teaches a good deal about the way you look at things and how much the proper attitude can help in success. You will also be asked to define what success is for you.

Each person’s definition of success will be different. It is up to the individual. Some people are a success with less than the next person is, while others need more. Where does it reach a stage of greed?

This book should be mandatory reading for anyone thinking of going into business for themselves, and in corporate America as well. This reviewer recommends this book as a must read.

Catwalk – A Feline Odyssey

by Kathie Freeman

This book is one recommended for people of all ages. This is a story not only for animal lovers, also even for those that may not like animals. It is a story about heart and home. Reading a story from an animal’s point-of-view is refreshing and unique. This reviewer found this book hard to put down, what is going to happen next, will keep you riveted and loath to put this book down.

For those that are cat lovers, this book will extremely poignant and will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will find everything from money issues to dating, and more within the pages of this book. It is enlightening and informative for everyone not just the widowed or divorced. There is information that couples could learn and implement in their everyday life.

Do you own a business? Do you own property? What about your investments or savings accounts in common? The time to know things is before something happens, not after. This book will explain many things that couples should be aware in case of the death of a loved one, or divorce. If one person in a relationship is a stay at home person, have you considered that fact that you may have to find work if the breadwinner were to pass away?

These are but a few of the items that this book addresses. Many marriages today end in divorce, while others may end with the loss of a loved one. What does the surviving partner do and what do they need to know. By reading this book, you will have some knowledge of the things to consider.

This reviewer recommends this book as a must read for everyone, single considering marriage, or married for years.

Jumpstart You Publishing Dreams by W. I encourage your visitors to check out: www.allbookreviews.com for their review, editing, and promotional needs.

Any news you would like to share concerning upcoming projects:

I am currently working on the third book in the Martha Whittaker series, Return to Whittakerville, which is to be released in the summer of 2009 by RealTime Publishing.

Thoughts concerning the current state of the literary world:

More and more authors are getting published thanks to the many POD sources and ebook publishing. I feel this is an excellent way for authors and writers to get their work to the waiting public. As founder of Allbooks Review, this is a constant stream of new authors needing our services. The economy has forced the closing of many newspapers and magazines around the world, however the internet seems to grow stronger in its place in the literary world.

Who is your favorite author and why?

My favorite author is Catherine Cookson. I am a historical fiction fan and no one compares to Cookson in this genre. I have read all of her books. Another author that I admire is Mathias Freese, author of The I Tetralogy. His work is haunting. It makes you think.

Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to publish?

I have been very fortunate in having my books: Dreams and Nightmares: The Martha Whittaker Story, The Whittaker Family Reunion, and A Call to Faith and Freedom all published. Return to Whittakerville is the third book in the Whittaker series and is being published in 2009. All of my books are available in both print and ebook format, including Kindle.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I would like to thank my readers for letting me know how much they love the Whittaker family and look forward to the next book. Reviews on Amazon have been 5 star and I appreciate all of the reviewer's comments very much. Celtic history buffs loved A Call to Faith and Freedom and I have had several people contact me with questions on Druids and the Celtic practices portrayed in the book.

How do you feel about what WritingRaw.com and other literary sharing sites are attempting to do for new writers?

I think authors both new and experienced need sites like this one. This is a gripping novel. I found it hard to put down once I started it. There are turns and twists, unexpected happenings, and relationships with very believable characters.

This book has everything from Red-Ops, a small town setting, and a hunt for a person. Does the person hunted for even exist? Are they in hiding? Where are they, will the townspeople tell where they can be found? What will happen if, or when the hunted lives, and found?

You will have to read this very good book to find the answers to these questions, as I enjoyed reading to find out. This is a book I would recommend for readers of Horror novels.

ISBN-10: 0-446-53593-1
ISBN-13: 978-0-446-53593-9

The Fearless Factor by Jacqueline Wales

The Fearless Factor is a book for all of us that fear inadequacy, or that somehow we don’t measure up to some arbitrary standard. What will happen though is that your attitude may change and you may see things from a different perspective, one of coming from a positive and accepting place.

Through the stories and anecdotes in this book, we can all see places where we are not living with a positive outlook. It is our mindset, which holds us back from achieving what we want in life. Ms. Lawrence gives you, with the help of guest contributors, some common sense ways to help change your mindset to reach your goals.

With some personal information from Ms. Lawrence, you can see where you might have set up some roadblocks to moving you life forward instead of being stuck in the same old rut. It does come down to the individual to improve their lot in life by playing the cards you were dealt, we all have to.

By reading this book and analyzing where you are in life, you have some tools and a different perspective that you can view your cards and improve your hand by dealing with the ones in your hand by looking at the hand differently. Turn what you think is a band hand into a great hand.

This book will help, but only if you are willing to do the work. On the first day of school, Bubba steps off the bus, thus begins a tale of opening one’s mouth. What happens as a result of this action? Think you know, don’t think so. You’ll have to read this engaging tale to find out.

This is a story that children and their parents should read. This is a story about more than just bullying, or being bullied by someone. Many things happen in our schools; this tale is about Bubba, David, and Jason. There is a backstory, as to why Jason acts the way he does towards people. Right or wrong, Jason directs his taunting toward David.

Ms. Schizas has woven a tale that is easy to read, and contains living breathing characters we can all connect with, and the time we spent in school. I would recommend this book to all for a good read, also learning something about bullying, and those that bully.

Green School Primer: Lessons in Sustainability

This is a book about modernization and the building of new schools making them eco-friendly. With the maintenance costs rising, using the green designs in this book, costs could be lowered while also making the classrooms more conducive to learning.

Lowering costs in a time where teachers need to spend their own money for the basic classroom necessities, and school districts in shortfall with their budgets, anything that could substantially lower operating and construction costs would seem to be something to consider.

The Green School Primer is such a book for the times we live in. What better way to teach about the environment and global warming than to have a school built taking these concerns into the construction, and retrofitting of older schools to make them eco-friendly and lowering operating costs for the school districts?

I found this book interesting in its concept and design featuring ways to lower the cost of running a school while teaching the students by example about going green and how to help global warming in the process. I would recommend that the various school boards consider reading this book as well as those in the construction industry.

Cracked: Timeless topics of nature courage and endurance by Alice Shapiro

This book is an anthology of poems that vary in length and stanza structure. This book has my recommendation for a book that should be read.

Watermelon Faith by Dr. Evelyn Murray Drayton

Dr. Drayton has written a book that shows through her own life and experiences, and through the thoughtful use of scriptures, just how easy it is to find the perfect watermelon, while we can’t root out evil in our lives as easy. This is a perfect analogy for this tale of personal experience and shows how evil people can lurk, even in some righteous of places, righteous people.

Also included in the back of the book is a Spiritual Checklist. A kind of survey you will find interesting. Look at it and see what you think, you might be surprised, by your answers to the checklist.

One must always be careful, for evil and the devil are about us, it’s not like choosing a ripe watermelon as Dr. Drayton so aptly writes in this book. This book is a good read and I would recommend it to all. This isn’t just a religious book, but a book that shows through examples and the judicious use of scripture to show you how evil can lurk among us and temp us in everyday situations in our daily lives, including our spiritual. I recommend this book as a book everyone should read, not just those that believe in good and evil.

Hard Times and Great Blessings by Kenneth F. Worth

Mr. Worth has written a memoir that lists the blessing from God throughout his life. This book is about his life and career in the military, and as a civilian working for the military in various capacities.

From adversity as a young boy, through his life, and finding his soul mate. Read a well-written memoir about how life can change, and progress with the help of God in our lives, when you have faith. You may not begin with the faith you need, but life has a way of leading you to it when you least expect it.

This is a book about a life lived to its fullest, and belief that things will work out. Mr. Worth is a good storyteller. He has a book that everyone should read, old, or young, you will find something in this memoir for you. I recommend this book for all to read, not just those that believe.

Anyone will find this a book well worth the read.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rjmbookreviews.blogspot.com/2009/03/hard-times-and-great-blessings-by.html' title='Hard Times and Great Blessings by Kenneth F. Vision boarding is much like the “Power of Intention” by Dr. Wayne Dyer. The difference is that this book will guide you through the process with simple but effective means to help you achieve your goals with exercises and anecdotes about celebrities that have achieved their goals using vision boarding techniques.

Vision Board shows how to create and use the technique of boarding in your life to attract what you desire. This will work in all aspects of your life from personal to relationships, to wealth and well-being.

Joyce has written a wonderful book that can lead you to the kind of life you desire, and helping you find out what your true desire really is. Through the art of visioning, you can attain it.
